This article unfortunately demonstrates the gradual erosion of Israel`s will to fight and the prevailing defeatist attitude of the establishment.

1. Why do we even use Hamas` term "tehediya"? By using it we give legitimacy to their concept of a cease fire-- a limited lull on their terms.

2. The Israeli tendency to procrastinate and only deal with a problem when it becomes a catastrophe is operative here, too. Hamas is becoming an actual army under our noses, while we continually make excuses for delaying the inevitable confrontation-- rainy weather, Bush`s visit, 60th celebrations, negotiations through Egypt-- all are lame reasons being used to shirk off responsibility.

3. The evacuation of the army base near Gaza is an unadulterated moral and tactical defeat. Its too dangerous for soldiers to be on our own border, but not for civilians in nearby towns?

4. What right to we have to insist that the world not talk to Hamas, while we negotiate a surrender/cease fire with them?
