| Hey Daivd, I fear that your comparing of penalty shootouts to the tie-break in tennis is wrong. It would be correct, if in tennis to break a tie, each player only served until they got an ace, there would be no volleying. Or both players could jump the net, raising the net with each succssful jump. It would be like NBA ties being broken by players taking foul shots, or a dunking contest. I prefer the "sudden death" (hockey) or the golden goal. As kids, when Mom was calling and we had to end the game, if it was tied, we would call next goal wins! Pretty simple, no need to bring in novelty and stupidity. As it is the game was settled in a monsoon rain, with the proud and loyal Terry slipping and hitting the post. Heck the Man U. goalie was totally beaten and eating an egg salad sandwich next to the opposte post. Play the game, the game called soccer, football whatever until the end. Thanks |
