| "The announcement of the renewal of negotiations between Israel and Syria will have an immediate effect on Iran`s status in the region, senior Israeli sources said on Thursday. The officials noted that Iran has not yet responded publicly to the talks. "It seems the Iranians are in shock," one of them said." This is, of course, bullshit. The probability that the Israelis will deliver what is needed for peace with Syria - the evacuation of the Golan Heights, with its essential water supplies - is precisely NIL. The Iranians know this, the Syrians know this, the Israelis know this. Talks between Israel and Syria are political theatre, nothing more, nothing less. The Israelis can`t even bring themselves to secure the release of Gilad Shalit by agreeing the release of just a portion of their vast population of Palestinian prisoners. What chance is there of them agreeing the evacuation of the Golan Heights? Iran knows all of this. |
