With all due respect to the Russians who came to Israel and contributed greatly to Israeli society, Israel should not enshrine Russian as a special language, any more than Polish.
That there are 1 million Russian speakers in the country is irrelevant. That is their immigrant language, and the next generation should be Hebrew speakers, just like every immigrant wave before them.
Let them learn Russian in after-school classes just as American Jews learn Hebrew or American Greeks learn their language.
The Russians need to Israelify. |
