Gaza would lose its usefulness as a foil to a peace agreement stringing time out until the entire West Bank is carved up. Of course it is about carved up right now. George W. Bush would not have come up with his child-like description of a Palestinian state as "Swiss cheese" unless someone on either side finally got a graphic of the UN`s West Bank Fragmentation Map in front of him. Abbas has been continuously rebuffed by Bush, and almost daily tells anyone who listens that he is gong to quit if this Annapolis thing does not pan out. Meanwhile, Hamas not only dropped several kilometers worth of a wall at the Egyptian border but they are also governing. While West Bank colonization continues, Hamas is growing stronger. With no Fatah leader to take Abbas`s place, the probabilities point to Hamas. |
