All,
I don`t know the context of the Olmert investigation and why it blew up at this point (as opposed to after the 2nd Lebanon War).
Nevertheless, Livni appears to be front runner within the Kadima Party to take over if Olmert resigns.
Olmert appears to be a stubborn guy. He could have resigned after criticism from the commission that looked into the conduct of the Lebanon War.
It is doubtful that this investigation will cause him to resign voluntarily.
However, the rest of the present coalition (Labor, Shas, etc) probably won`t force an election that could lead to a Likud victory.
Could the Kadima party force Olmert out by selecting a new party leader(the way the Tories forced out Margaret Thatcher)?
I`d like to hear from those who understand Israeli politics from the inside. |
