| Hamas is a grass roots organization operating among their recruiting base. They have far more members than they need for current or projected future operations. This will be true as long as Israel maintains oppressive and immoral pressure upon the general Palestinian population. This leaves no option for these people to protest this treatment other than to resist Israel. An IDF incursion into Gaza will work in the opposite of Israels interest. It is not a deterrent, and even if they killed hundreds of Hamas men and killed not a single civilian, it would not change anything. In fact, such an incursion would kill many civilians as well as IDF men, but the point is the same. This struggle can only be ended with dialog and with the realization that the Israelis would act far worse than the Palestinians if there was a concerted effort to take away their land and homes and herd them into guarded enclaves. In fact, I think it has been tried before. |
