| Waxman is right.I too am a sociologist and have written about this. The Jewish establishment has ignored this problem. It goes deeper than elitist organizations and leaderships. What we have here is the issue of social class divisions within the American Jewish community.Those Jews who are not solidly upper middle class with high prestige professions are not welcome to share in the essential workings of the Jewish community, (synagogues are often the exception though since they are frequently established along class lines). All of the fact finding commissions of jewish federations will be to no avail until this issue of social class is taken seriously. |
