| Strange, Waxman`s omission of what seems to me to be one of the most significant reasons many American Jews are backing off from organizations is that so much of the mission of Jewish groups is devoted to promoting Israel as though it were still a struggling fledgling of a state instead of a major global military powerhouse holding some 4 million people under brutal military occupation. Like it or not, agree with it or not, that is the perception that is gaining currency even among Jews in this country, and it only fuels deeper mistrust and resentment the more effort AIPAC and such groups put into suppressing open debate on Israeli policies, not to mention the enormous influence Israel and its supporters exert on U.S. policy in the Middle East. |
