| There is an abundance of information out there but not many look before 1850s. Perhaps because the picture it paints is not so Palestinian in some ways - waves of immigrations, an Egyptian invasion of Palestine and settlement.Algerian Lebenese, beduion, north african groups, all in flux coming, even ex slaves brought and settled here. Not also mentioning later the many Arab foreigners employed by the madate who stayed It was a pretty mixed group that make up today what is Palestinian. Not many villages can claim five hundred years in existance (Beit Jala & Safafa from 1400/east bank wadi musa), Bethlehem from 1500-Arabian settlers)the majority can not. History is complicated and requires deep searching and the Palestinians themselves never go very far back in their search because their madate to claim this land as a continious enthic people for centuries can not be backed up by what documents and data there is out there. Becoming Palestinian has been a journey and not a very long one. |
