| Why would a good Christian, beloved of the nation of France, become an ally of Hisbollah? In a curious fashion, he is the key, and the essential clue, to the current situation in Lebanon. The Siniora government is opposed by almost everyone. Not even the Bush Junta and Israel will actually stop doing things to doom it, and neither will even consider helping it. So, if Siniora is the last great hope of the Christians, who is Aoun? He is their last sane hope. He understands just how the demographics of Lebanon have changed, and just how those who - like the Siniora I support - refuse to accept the new reality in Lebanon are doomed. |
