Despite buying land for years prior to 1948, it was the Balfour Declaration and the UN partition that gave birth to Israel. Rules of those who win wars are allowed to take the land and administer it and or divide it, but not take ownership of individual plots. The British did this very thing - again all by the law. Your land ownership didn`t change, just your address and country name. Kind of like what happened in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia when their lines were drawn.
No rules were bent at all, except those of Arabs who emigrated into the land over the 20 years prior and simply squatted on land they farmed when the owner skipped town. That`s called theft!
