History is dead. And any time folks get a chance to hear of it as it seemed, or was seen, by someone participating in history is a golden moment.
Irvin Schindler was arrested in the Azores flying the fourth B-17 he had bought to Israel. He ended up selling real estate in Miami and doing a talk-radio show on WKAT.
He was a fine guy, and told many stories of supplying Israel with much of it`s early air force, Constellations, C-46s and the three B-17s flown in before he was arrested.
He gave me an intense ability to appreciate the problems faced by those trying - before it was a nation - Israel with the arms and equipment necessary to survive.
I am glad to have known him. |
