When I was a kid (in the `60`s) we heard the term "sabra" (meaning native Israeli) all the time, as if being native born in Israel was an uncommon occurance, In those days I guess it was.

The article says: "At present, some 69 percent of the Jewish population are native-born Israelis, as opposed to only 35 percent in 1948". With 70% of Israeli Jews born there, that explains why we don`t hear that word so much these days. Being a "sabra" isn`t so unique anymore.
