| Last year, Israel made official complaints to the American government that Egypt was doing a very poor job of border security. This was during a time when there were lots of Sudanese refugees and some of them had been getting into Israel through Egypt. The American congress took immediate steps to reduce Egyptian aid by a significant amount. After this, Egypt requested that they be allowed to increase the number of security troops guarding the border with Israel to help fix the problem. Israel refused this request. Since this time, Egypt has killed a number of refugees as they tried to infiltrate Israel. This gives Israel exactly what they wanted all along. They get far fewer refugees, and they get to condemn Egyptian "barbarism" in the bargain. |
