It sounds rather banal but girlfriends probably aren`t informed because, unlike parents and a wife, they aren`t listed on official forms. Perhaps the forms should be adjusted, or perhaps the IDF assumes the boy`s parents will inform his girlfriend. It`s tragic no mattr how she finds out!
