| UN242 describes Israeli withdrawal "to secure and recognized borders free from threats and acts of force". No requirement for "land trades", and it isn`t going to happen; Israel is a democracy, and the voters there are not going to agree. Period. True, many Israelis would like to ditch the problematic and disloyal Arab towns on the borders, like Taibe and Umm-Al Fahm, but that does not contribute to secure borders, and more importantly, the Israeli Arabs who live there, although fairly hostile to the Jewish state, have made it clear that they are 100% opposed to become part of the PA! And due to the problem of the Pol Pot Hamas regime in Gaza, trading for a "safe passage" route to W. Bank is off the table for good. Most important of all, for Israel and the US, is to NOT reward terrorism by giving the PA a better deal than the Clinton Plan, which the PA rejected, hoping their "Intifada" war would bring better terms. A lesser deal, Olmert`s latest "64%" offer, is all Abbas now deserves. |
