| Well I would certainly agree with you that Britain has committed some terrible crimes, but then almost all countries with long histories have. If modern Israel lasts for 1600 years, it`ll have some pretty nasty crimes in its history (some would argue it has already). Britain was the most successul imperial power ever, it`s true. But do remember every other western country also built empires (the US just built it on the native Americans not abroad), we just happened to be most successful. I also, despite things like the Opium wars, Amritsar massacre etc, would disagree with you about the harshness of Brit imperial rule. The early years were rough, but not as bad as many others (see Belgian rule in the Congo e.g) and in the latter years we gave most countries democracy, some western values and their freedom, mostly with good grace unlike a lot of other imperial powers. Sorry for the blood libel, but it`s a long time ago and Jews are now a valued part of Uk society in every area of life. |
