just to remind u hamas was the first ever democratically elected oppostion party in the arab world.so not really totalitarian.
for the plethora of reasons Hamas weren`t given an opportunity to do anything. they were destabilised by israel and the quartet who instead provided fatah with millions of dollars to pursure illegal undemocratic leadership (sayigh 2007). political parties pushing ideologies often want their people to support their ideologies too so they provide as much social services as possible etc early zionism used to provide free health insurance to their fighters right? cuba promotes socialism through high standards of health care.
