| Just some background info: The copyright for Mein Kampf is held by Bavaria for most of the world except for the US and a few other countries. Bavaria simply refuses to (re)publish the book, so that it is not available for sale in Germany and most countries. It is not specifically prohibited (old copies are available for reading in some academic libraries, but not for lending), but the spread of Nazi propaganda is prohibited, so even selling historical copies is problematic. On the other hand, Mein Kampf is sold in the US like any other book and purchasing an electronic version of the book for immediate download from a US store is easy (google a bit, price $2.98). Granted, it is an English translation, so German Neo-Nazis will not want it, but finding an illegal (illegal because of copyright violation) German version in the internet is not too difficult either. In other words, anyone who wants to read the book, can. |
