As Sheleg points out, our communities didn`t deal with the same challenges as the European communities, and thus don`t approach modernity in the same fashion. Also, since our people didn`t develop the same yeshiva culture, when they came to Israel they didn`t adopt the "Torah study is our life`s work". So Sephardim almost across the board, work. They serve in the IDF. They`re also not afraid of women and so don`t accept the gender segregation pushed by the haredim. And, I`m proud to note, even our "seculars" are more traditional than Ashkenazi seculars.

Finally, since it`s Pesah, I`ll remind you that WE eat kitniyot (rice, legumes) because we got the law right!
