A German-Jewish newspaper recently wrote something like this: "No matter whether we are chasidim or atheists, zionists or marxists, for anti-semites we`re Jews." It`s a strange idea that one might need the contrast to anti-semites to feel related.
Already in France, Mitterrand wanted to unite "the two Frances". The lack of unity might have played a role in weakness towards Germany in 1940: E.g. the French communist party had objected to fighting Germany because Germany had a pact with the Soviet Union...
But 12 Israeli tribes? I once said to an Israeli that Israel is way out of my league: I can`t imagine to integrate into such a society, I can`t "comprehend" it.
