Bush is not coming to celebrate a peace deal, though he will try to push it along. He`s coming to celebrate the fact that Israel, which its neighbors tried to destroy at its creation, has not only survived but thrived. Abdullah`s father, the late King Hussein, was probably most interested in a genuine peace with Israel. I`m confident he would not only have come to celebrate Israel`s 60th, but would have been a guest of honor.
Abdullah is no Hussein; he thinks himself a statesman, but he`s just following the party line as he struggles to survive in a bad neighborhood. |
