Let`s get something straight here. Battles and wars are won or lost depending upon who is left standing on the field of battle regardless of the cost in lives. Therefore, the ultimate military strategy is to seize and hold ground while minimizing casualties. Navies, air power, missles, and rockets can cause a lot of damage, but they cannot seize and hold terrority; only the infantry can do that. "Defensible borders" just means a border that minimizes the possibility of being invaded on the ground by a group of self-declared, hostile aliens. There are no quarantees, of course, but a "defensible" border is better than an indefensible one.
If the next war is to be a missle war, then the only thing that`s going to happen is a lot of dead people on both sides with no territory changing hands. Nobody wins and everybody loses to no purpose. Bombs, missles, and rockets with conventional, chemical, or biological warheads just can`t kill enough people to force a surrender. |
