Yes it is true that the Turks cut down a huge number of trees in both LebaNON and in what you now call Palestine. Why did they cut down the trees? You would have everyone think from your post that their intent was malicious, when in reality the fallen trees were used for building the railway between Jaffe and Damscus. The trees were also used in the building of the Hejaz line. What you forgot to mention is that the city of Um al Fahm (Mother of Coal) was the center for the production of coal which was used in powering the steam engines and in cooking. Wadi Ara was known as a well wooded area before the felling of the forests. But the Arab pop did nothing to bring back the forests after the felling of the trees. Many Arabs are fine farmers, but you know Ben that this has nothing to do with the environment. When I was in Fez, Morocco, I saw the high walls surrounding private residences. I saw the dwellers throwing their garbage over the wall & into the street. |
