Israel running out of drinking water means now drinking more agricultural water, which is of higher quality, since crops are much more sensitive to salinity. Contaminants from farm run-off are dealt with by modern sewage treatment plants, you just have to stop drinking raw well water and treat/clorinate it. Since so much high-quality agricultural water will now be diverted to human use, agricultural water use (much greater than drinking water volume) must be cut by that amount. NO CHOICE. Where can cuts come from NOW to handle current shortage? From Gaza`s share (which should go to ZERO!), and from money-losing Kibbutz enterprises not paying the true cost of the water they use; Israel can`t be subsidizing EU supermarkets! |
