Harel and Issacharoff are usually more on target with their assessments, but this time they strike me as being way off. The Hamas attack was not risky at all, and its goal was not to lift the economic blockade. Hamas military attacks are standard procedure for them. Their goal is to kill and kidnap, but with what end goal in mind? The Hamas end goal is to replace Israel with an Islamic state and to kill or deport the 6 million Jews living there. Far from putting anything at risk, Hamas is not taking any chances that they would be forced into recognizing Israel and making peace. What would be a risky move for Hamas? Sitting down for peace talks. In fact, it`s so risky that they would never do it because it is directly opposed to their raison d`etre. |
