| Nice (and alarming) article by Zafrir Rinat. Reading Dr. Brnd`s earlier post, if I knew nothing of the drinking water problem in Israel, I would wrongly assume that Gaza is the main culprit for this severe problem! These "Gaza problems" are a few drops in the drying bucket. Last time I checked, the wells closed in the highly industrial urban centers were in Israel, and the toxins cannot be traced to Gaza. Last time I checked, these troublesome cattle raising facilities are in Israel, not Gaza. I suggest we Israelis accept the bulk of the responsibility for the critical, irreversible problems to our aquifers. All this is compounded by predictions of Prof. P. Albert and others of a hotter and drier future due to global climate change. Israel will have no recourse but to use more desalination, but with present practical technology, desalination is quite expensive and means more greenhouse gases. Lets make environmental protection in Israel a higher priority!! Hag Sameiach! |
