| Obviously Hamas does not consider Shalit a minor bargaining chip to be traded for whatever deal they can get from Israel, although this is how Israel played it. Hamas wants to use this opportunity to humiliate Israel, and, so far, they are doing a good job of it. Israels problem, now that they know what`s going on, is that they could have had this same deal almost two years ago. To take it now would make them look foolish at best. Israel would like a little face saving bargaining from Hamas, but Hamas won`t budge. Hamas wins if Israel takes their deal and Hamas wins if Shalit is allowed to sit on the bargaining table, unredeemed by his nation. Israel should have seen this coming long ago and made the trade. It`s much worse to make the trade now, and worse yet to do nothing. |
