(IsraelNN.com) Israeli playwright Boaz Gaon, who wrote a stage version of a story by PFLP terrorist Ghassan Kanfani, decided to change the ending of the story to something more peaceful. Gaon used Kanfani’s work in which an Arab boy is adopted by a Jewish family and raised as Israeli, but dropped the original ending, in which one of the Arab protagonists says that the Israeli-Arab conflict will only be solved through war. Gaon said he worried that the original ending would make viewers “leave the theater and rush to the front.”

Kanfani was the PFLP’s spokesman until his death in an IDF operation in Lebanon in 1982. He was a senior member of the group at the time that it carried out plane hijackings and the 1972 Lod airport massacre. Jewish activists have protested the Cameri Theater’s decision to perform Kanfani’s work, and have asked Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai to stop the performance.
