I am sure there are truly poor people, a lot of elderly mainly and African refugees and the Ethiopians. But there are also thousands of families spending more than they earn, this has always been the case in Israel. They`d rather buy their kids the latest game consoles than pay the bills. I also feel sorry for the parents, being a parent myself, I know how kids need to compete in the school yard, to have the latest, the most expensive items, clothes, foot wear, computers etc. It is too easy to shop with credit cards, even groceries in so many payments before the high holidays. They still pay for their Pessach shopping by the time it is Rosh ha Shana. This should stop. Pay cash or at once with your bank card. Israeli government is also to blame for letting the situation getting out of hand. Furthermore, there should be a better social benefit and income tax system. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer, the gap between rich and poor is growing fastest in Israel. Shameful ! |
