| A truce will not serve Israels interests of long term expansion in the west bank and East Jerusalem. This is simply a bone to toss to Bush who likely has been demanding such a thing prior to his visit. The six month period will conveniently run up to the end of Bush`s term of office. Bush can claim a victory and Israel can get Bush off their back. Israel will never willingly enter into a peace process which will require an evacuation from the west bank. If west bank expansion was not Israels prime motive for avoiding peace, then it would not be going on right now in the face of American, Palestinian, and international protests. |
