Actually Durban 1 was supposed to have been a conference on slavery. It was hijacked into an anti-Israel and anti-jewish forum(sometimes odiously so). Many african countries were dismayed and furious, as they were very much interested in debatting slavery, subject that was not approached. Many of them blame Saudi Arabia to be at the origin of this hijacking (and maybe this country had reason not to debate slavery?).
This is why there is no point attending Durban 2. I agree that it would be good to debate racism, existing in every part of the world, but would that happen??? |
