Once upon a time, Kalkilya had a vibrant trading relationship with Kfar Sava and the neighboring Jewish cities & towns--
I remember shopping there--Prices were reasonable, farm produce was fresh, auto repairs were inexpensive--Everybody was happy, customers and merchants appreciated the close proximity--
Then, the Inftifadah`s started--The commerce came to a halt--Jews spent their money in Jewish shops, Arabs sat with the unwanted merchandise on their shop shelves--Produce rotted on the sidewalk stands--
With all the sparetime the Kalkilyan`s have on their hands, all they can do is dream of the good old days and shoot at each other in frustration-- |
