Here in Washington, as elsewhere, there are Jewish day schools meant to serve the entire community. They`re obviously private, given the separation of church and state, but they draw their student bodies from across the religious spectrum, excepting the very orthodox. They`re intended to provide a high standard of secular education, but also teach Jewish texts, history, tradition, etc. It`s a means not only of fighting Jewish ignorance but also of building a community.
