I am a volunteer for a local Israeli NGO, working with the refugees from Eritrea, Darfur, Ivory Coast and South Sudan. Working with these refugees, I have seen wounds and injuries caused during their time in the Eritrean army. Some of them served over 15 years, getting two small piecs of bread a day and living in horrible cells. Soldier`s life?
Their lives have been difficult and some of the refugees have left their countries years ago, being constantly rejected from country to country. Call them deserters, economic migrants, refugees, whatever you want! The fact remains that they need help and were mistreated by their government. There are now several thousands of them in Israel and the state of Israel must help them. This is a land where a few generations ago, its people also went through difficult times... |
