It`s right to have watchdog groups performing the check and balance function in our beleaguered land, but though I see great approval for Israelis criticising themselves there is no parallel Palestinian organisation. Are we to believe that all Palestinians therefore accept all the violent actions of their authority, political parties and individuals without question?
I wonder too whether our other neighbours have such bodies. Is there a Jordanian version, a Lebanese version, an Egyptian version of BTselem and if not, why not? The fact that such bodies do not exist or that we never read of their judgement of their society argues a lack of concern for justice and either a fear of the consequences of questioning or a laissez faire attitude towards morality. |
