Title:brain death IS death

without the function of the brain, we become nothing more than a thing...less even than a plant; because a plant can live and thrive without a brain, while we cannot.
at the very best, it can be said that we ARE a plant, kept alive only by nourishment, and sometimes even by artificially continuing our body functions...not required for a plant as long as it`s nourished.
yet we ARE "dead", in every sense of the word.
therefore, if to harvest our fruit is to be condemned by religion as "murder"; then so too is it murder to harvest the fruit of any plant or animal if doing so results in an end to its existence.
i`m much more able to accept the religious argumant that by transplanting organs we are playing "God" and attempting to thwart His will; than i am to buy the line that the complete loss of brain function does NOT constitute death.
