It depends on our concepts of friendship. How much honest criticism does a friendship support? How much harmony does it require? At present I`m again working as a teacher. It is my concept of authority that a teacher has to make hard didactical and social efforts in order to be recognized as an authority by the students. "Authority" which would be imposed merely through the difference of power between students and teachers is rather a kind of fear and rarely results in genuine respect. Although we in Europe know that cruel things are being perpetrated on either side of the war, I suppose that our lives are in average easier to live than middle eastern lives: We know that, ISraelis know that, Palestinians know that: If we simply condamn the actions, the response will be: You european boys and girls want to tell us? Come here, spend some weeks in Sderot or Gaza if you dare! So why should I be allowed to criticise the actions of people whose situation I never shared? Simply because I can?
