| Even the much-vaunted American Phalanx system relies on early radar detection, which is not very effective at short Kassam-type ranges. It works by "wild-firing" 3,000 rounds of depleted uranium per minute in the general direction of the target once the radar has detected a flying object. This is only an option in an open ocean or desert environment, but not in the vicinity of dense Israeli and Arab civilian settlements, not to mention Israeli aircraft activity. The only sure way to eliminate the missile threat from Gaza is by meticulous search and destroy operations on the ground and then effectively keeping out resupply, which only reoccupation combined with curfews might effectively achieve. This is the sober reality! |
