If you look at a catalog of the curriculum, you will see the names of the teachers along with their titles as lecturer, professor, assistant professor, associate professor. In other words, the title is granted by a university or college as part of the individual`s status. A person may still be a PhD, but unaffiliated with a school and therefore not a professor. (El Arian was, if I recall correctly, a teacher here in Florida. He is no longer affiliated with the school. My uncle was a teacher at Yeshiva University, but left and no longer was considered a professor until he joined the Russian Institute at Columbia University. |
