Since 1967, water in the occupied territories has been placed under military control and Arab residents have been forbidden to dig new wells, whereas Jewish settlements may drill for water without restriction. World Bank statistics reveal that 90 percent of the water in the West Bank is used for Israel`s benefit and the Palestinians have to make do with the remaining ten percent. In 1996, a World Bank report described the water shortage in Gaza as the most serious in the world. If Israel still controls Gaza, then residents have a right to proper human rights which includes potable water. The FACT that they do not, is a war crime under international law and Israel should be made to answer for this crime,,,amongst others. |
