| Any one who has ever traveled in the Arab world, will note that there are many``Jewish Looking" people who are Christians and Muslims. Any one who has ever been to Syria would see that the majority of the Syrians in the cities look and act like Ashkenazic Jews even if they are Christians or Muslims. Even the Arabic dialect of Syrian using the same sing song intonation as bochers studying Talmud in Yeshiva. I am of pure Ashkenazic Jewish origin and in spite of my completely European ancestry, many Syrians thought that I was the child of Syrian immigrants. The truth is that arguments such as Zand`s actually weaken the Palestinian position because they say that if the Jews originally came from the Middle East, that the Zionist project would be justified. |
