| Like most barbaric and genocidal past non Jewish leaders, Jewish rabbis has rarely made intellectual innovations. Among the greatest philosophers there have been few Jews and no rabbis. Most great ideas were contributed by the Greek and Roman philosophers before Judea could read and write widely. To be a rabbi is a handicap. A mental captivity. The innovation, we need is a development of civility. The Israeli haredi people with few exceptions are still cooking in the Eastern European anger. The haredi community needs a mental liberation, an introduction to civility, and to the Enlightenment. The majority is good natured people, full of good intentions, but hopelessly entangled in myths and nostalgia. |
