is glaring.Israel is one of the most secular cdemocartic countries in the world.Israel was born out of the struggle led by socialist parties such as Mapai,Ahdut Avoda,Mapam and yes the Israeli Communist Party at the early stages of 1947 until 1950 when Stalin s Sovits Union and its Eastern European satellite states suported Israels birth out of expectation to gain foothold in Middle East.Until 1978 Labor Parties ruled israel.With the Election of Likud and centrists another period of secular right wing government led Israel.The religious parties were never in full control of Israeli Governments.Settlers are mainly religious immigrants from USA and Russian Olim who get cheap housing.
The Western press paints a distorted pictures when TV cameras and photojournalist take pictures of Bearded Hasidic looking Jews on West Bank as if those religious Jews are the ruing majority of Israeli population.They are not.A large segment of the hasidim don`t recognize Israel.They wait for Mosiah. |
