Whether or not the settlements are considered part of Israel, "Palestine" is not a country and can`t be used as a country label. This is not a matter of politics; it is simply common sense. Facebook programmers should use an encyclopedia or atlas for their geographical information. Why don`t they do the obvious?
Palestinian-controlled areas should also not be listed as being in "Palestine", because, again, there is no such political entity. They should be listed as being in the West Bank or Gaza. For those really obsessed with labels, Facebook can also use the designations in the latest negotiated document the Palestinians signed and promised to abide by- the Oslo Accords. Using the word "Palestine" is illogical, unnecessary, and serves only to stoke hatred. |
