| Even if Bush was to really push Olmert to actually remove the settlers, all Olmert has to do is delay enough for the next president to countermand Bush`s orders. The reality is, the 500,000 settlers are not going anywhere. No one in Israel has the guts or power to remove them, so there can never be a two state solution (hard to have a state with no land). Nor can there be a one secular state solution because no one in Israel will accept not being in control. So with both the one state and two state solutions "off the table," what is left? Gaza to Egypt and a few acres of land and millions of people to Jordan? Why on earth would either Egypt or Jordan agree to that? There is no "win" in that for them. So all that is left is constant war until one side is able to wipe out the other (hint: do NOT bet on Israel). Bush has no time nor leverage to get any peace solution before he is thrown out of the presidency. |
