| As an American with many intermarried friends and family, some of whom raise the kids Jewish, I take umbrage at those who oversimplify Jewish identity ("You`re in, or you`re out"). Stop pretending there`s only one way to be Jewish or live a Jewish life. If you go that route, we`ll all have to be Haredim or goys. It`s disappointing when a Jew intermarries, but that doesn`t have to be the end. We don`t live in a ghetto, it`s challenging to be Jewish outside of Israel (and even in Israel if the secular society is any indicator) so try encouraging "return", like Chabad, and don`t write people off. As for psychiatry, the only thing gained by writing intermarried Jews off is you get to feed your own superiority complex. |
