It was largely a creation of Yasser Arafat who for years kept addressing crowds at the annual Hajj and by Haj Amin al-Husseini, the Jerusalem Mufti who worked with Hitler. The Middle East Conflict was always in the main, just an Arab-Jew conflict particularly between Syria and Israel. It took an effort on the part of some to turn this thing into a Muslim vs. Jew thing. And a fear by Arab Oligarchs that Socialist Jews from Eastern Europe were going to eductate
and inspire the illiterate impoverished Arab peasant masses into some kind of revolution. |
