Far from betz55`s contention that the Israeli position has been rejectionist, the gov`t of Israel has spoken in favor of the establishment of a Pal. state in the WB&GS for well over a decade. Importantly, and quite reasonably, that position is conditioned on the proposition that establishment of that state will end the conflict, meaning that the Arab parties have to agree that upon the establishment of the Pal. state, they will no longer aggitate for the destruction of Israel. That is the bone on which the rejectionst Arabs have choked. Hamas declares this openly. Members of Fatah discuss it only among themselves for the most part, with one official or another finding it too hard to resist speaking of it openly with the media from time to time.
All one need do to find the rejectionists in this conflict is to read the Hamas charter, the PLO charter, and the statements of their various members in the press. Hamas only recently reaffirmed this position in the press. Where were you? |
